Rónán McLaughlin is a keen birder, photographer, wildlife enthusiast and regular contributor to the Ireland’s Wildlife community on Facebook. Originally from Donegal, but now based in Cobh, Co. Cork, Rónán is launching a calendar the end of this week documenting a year in the life of the nearby Cuskinny Marsh nature reserve.
The launch will take place at the Sirius Arts Centre at the Old Yacht Club, Cobh at 7pm on Friday 16 September 2011 and is open to all.
Cuskinny Marsh is a delightful little wetland nature reserve. It is privately owned, and consists of around 12 hectares of lake, swamp, grassland and woodland along the lower reaches of the Ballyleary Stream. Managed by Birdwatch Ireland, the reserve is a fantastic spot for getting close to local wildlife, not to mention a wonderful educational resource for local schools.
Cuskinny is perhaps best known nationally as a featured location on many a “Mooney Goes Wild” Dawn Chorus event . If you’re ever in the Cobh area it’s well worth stopping for a look from the public roadside, parking area and beach.
Ireland’s Wildlife would like to wish Rónán all the best with the calendar – which, judging from the shots he regularly posts to the IW and Birdwatch Ireland pages on Facebook will be a very striking piece of work. I for one am looking forward to seeing a copy.
If you’d like a sneak preview of Rónán’s work you’ll find a selection of his Irish bird photography on his Flickr page.
