Ireland’s south coast delivered a very special wildlife experience for guests on our Discover Wildlife Weekend on the West Cork coast of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way last week.
We kicked off on Friday evening with shore-based views of Humpback and Fin Whales blowing offshore. That was followed up with some fantastic encounters with these iconic ocean giants out on the water with Cork Whale watch on Saturday morning. Incredibly we managed the West Cork “Big 5” of marine mammals: Harbour Porpoise, Common Dolphin, Minke Whale, Humpback Whale and Fin Whale.
The highlight was undoubtedly the Humpback, which put on a fabulous display of breaching and tail-slapping for us just as we were about to head back to shore.
Add in wonderful seabird sightings, and a wide range of terrestrial habitats from estuarine mudflats to woodland glades, and you have the making of a wonderful wildlife break.
You can read more about it on this wildlife trip report on our dedicated Ireland’s Wildlife Tours website, where you’ll also find details of all our upcoming tours.
We’ll be finalising dates for 2019 tours soon — so while you’re there why not subscribe to our Ireland’s Wildlife Tours email list to stay up to date with news and offers on all our guided wildlife experiences.
