In this first in a new series of posts featuring the work of some of Ireland’s best wildlife photographers we look at the winning portfolio of West Cork photographer Phil Pound, who won the prestigious “Best Wildlife Portfolio” and “Best Single Wildlife Image” in the 2104 Irish Professional Photographers Association (IPPA) Awards earlier this week.

Phil has been chasing the light for 27 years, 15 of them as a self employed Professional Photographer. He was born and raised near Corfe Castle in Dorset, England and moved to Ireland in 2001. He is now based not far from the village of Drimoleague in the scenic area of West Cork.

Having grown up on a farm in Dorset Phil has always had a  passion for the landscape and local  Wildlife. Phil’s day to day work includes commercial and portrait photography, but if the sun is shining you’re more likely to find him out photographing nature — saving his studio work for the dull days.
