The final countdown is on for Ireland’s island wide BioBlitz 2012, with four sites across the island competing for Ireland’s biodiversity crown.
Killarney National Park took the title last year, and I’m off to Glengarriff Woods Nature Reserve in West cork later today to do whatever I can to help bring the title back down south.
We’re competing against Phoenix Park in Dublin, Lough Boora Parklands, Co. Offally and Crawfordsburn Country Park in County Down.
The latest BioBlitz 2012 odds have Glengarriff pegged as favourites, closely followed by Crawfordsburn, then Lough Boora with Dublin’s Phoenix Park bringing up the rear.
I’ll be tweeting the event on @wildireland on Twitter, and posting occasionally to Facebook during the 24 hour event, and will, of course, be posting a full report here on the website once it’s all over.
If you’re looking for something wild to do this weekend, why not go along to your nearest BioBlitz site and get involved – you’ll find full details and a programme of public events for each site on the Bioblitz website.
